Team GB Heptathlete Lucy Turner Visits Northern Counties School
Northern Counties School had the honor of welcoming Team GB Athlete Lucy Turner for an engaging fitness workshop that left a lasting impact on both students and staff.
Lucy is a hebburn-born local athlete, who was selected to represent Team GB in 2017 for Heptathlon – which聽 involves developing skills across all seven disciplines: the 100 metres hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200 metres, long jump, javelin throw and the 800 metres.
Lucy led an inclusive session that catered to learners of all abilities, emphasising the importance of fitness and personal growth.
During the workshop, Lucy shared her inspiring journey as an athlete, highlighting her passion for the sport and the challenges she has faced along the way.She spoke about her inspiration, Olympic champion Jessica Ennis-Hill and how her achievements motivated her to pursue her dreams in athletics, showing how role models can ignite ambition in young athletes.
Lucy also opened up about her personal struggles with type 1 diabetes, and how she manages her condition, and how you can still pursue your goals with hard work and dedication.
The inclusive nature of the workshop allowed all participants to engage in various fitness activities, reinforcing the message that everyone can lead a healthy lifestyle, regardless of their abilities.
